Minutes of November 13, 2023 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Jim G. at 10:00 a.m.
Prayer was said by Dan Smith
Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Present were: Jim G.: Co-President and 23 members
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.
Treasurer’s Report: Our balance is $12,089.72. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Jim G. stated that one of his objectives was to improve communications about the Activities taking place in the Park. There are several places to find information about all the Activities in Paradise Bay and Sarasota Bay. They are the electronic Board on the Paradise Bay Rec Hall, the Calendar inside the Paradise Bay Office, the Board on the Sarasota Bay Rec Hall, the Calendar in the Sarabay Rec Hall, the calendar in the monthly Newsletter and the Activity Calendar on the paradisebay.info website. Everyone is welcome to participate in both Sarabay and Parabay activities.
The Florida Power and Light Co. would like to speak during a Coffee Hour. Jim G. will contact them for more details then will discuss at the next meeting.

- Coffee Hour on Monday, January 1, 2024-Should we have one?
- Thanksgiving Day Dinner-Shuffleboard Club is hosting. There are a total of 22 tables; people have been assigned to 18 tables but they are not all full, yet.
- Christmas Day Dinner-Bocce Club is hosting.
- Activities Calendar on paradisebay.info-has the most up to date information; Anyone with changes should contact Jim G. or Lee Stephens
- New Sound System (Golf Cart Rodeo, etc.)-It was hard to hear at the Golf Cart Rodeo. Should we purchase one?; if so, what type and how much? Dan Smith said he has a sound system that might work. He will ask Scotty about it.
Committee reports/update
Entertainment-Darnell Darr-The season tickets have been sold.
Fun Fitness-Darnell Darr-The dates have been put on the Calendar.
Karaoke-Darnell Darr-We have a new machine and cd’s. If anyone would like to use the new machine, please contact Darnell. We will be doing a 50/50 drawing; the proceeds will be used to purchase new cd’s. There will be a Christmas Karaoke during the Christmas Open House on Friday, December 22nd at 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Boating & Fishing Club-There was a question about possibly changing the day of the Music on the Bay for December and January because it was on the same day as the Fishing Tournament. Due to the scheduling of other activities, it was decided there isn’t another day available for the Music on the Bay. There are 86 members involved in Kayaking. They would like to have a Kayak Launch that would cost approximately $10,000. They need to determine a location, develop a design, obtain any necessary permits and find out how to pay for it. He, also, stated they would like a trailer for the kayaks. Jim told him to submit a request to the Activities Committee.
Dance-Information is on the bulletin boards in both Rec Halls and in the December Newsletter. The people on the wait list are being contacted. If you don’t receive a call by mid-December, the tickets are sold out. There will be 4 music events available to everyone on a first come first served basis.
Craft Show-Jean Colson-It will be on Saturday, December 2nd. We will have more vendors this year.
Water Aerobics-Jean Colson-The 9:00 a.m. class is going fine. We haven’t started a 10:00 a.m. class, yet. We need enough people to attend and someone willing to put away the equipment.
Waterfront Worship-Dan Smith-It will begin the Sunday after Thanksgiving at 10:00 a.m.
Bayfront Flowers-Tom Colson-He told us that Kathy Sparks is in charge, now.
Shuffleboard-Chris Matteson-It’s open every day at 12:30 p.m.
Bocce Club-Jim G. said Tom Billings told him that if anyone would like to play, they can go on Wednesday mornings until the official schedule starts.
Ladies Friendship Club-Joyce N.-During the Craft Show on Saturday, December 2nd will be the Luncheon at 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the Bake Sale at 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Blood Mobile at 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Randy Darr informed us the storage room by the stage has been cleaned up with the old decorations thrown away. He indicated that items were removed from the lockers and put in the Hall to see if they belong to anyone. If no one claims them, anyone else could have them. There will be a new cabinet for the Boating and Fishing Club. The Rec Hall has been painted, the floor done, and the bulletin boards have been redone. There are plastic clips on the windows to be used for flyers instead of taping them to the window. Any items in the Annex closet that aren’t being used, should be removed.
With no objections, Jim G. adjourned the meeting at 11 a.m.

Minutes of March 27, 2023 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Jim G. at 10:00 a.m.

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Present were: Jim G.: Co-President, Shana Simison: Vice President, Wendy Graf: Treasurer, Karen Rimatzki: Secretary, Donna Matteson: Board Assistant and 17 members
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed, posted in the Rec Hall and passed out at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.
Treasurer’s Report: Our balance is $12,834.23 but there are several outstanding transactions. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Jim G. said that all the Activities have been very well attended, this year.
Vice President’s report: Shana S. is working on the Calendar for next season. She said it is filling up very nicely for a great season. If anyone has an event for next season, please let Shana know.
Old Business.
- Approved revised Rules-signing by Co-Presidents & Secretary (copies will be given to Office and Activities Committee file; also, on paradisebay.info website)
- Fashion Show, Bocce Banquet, and Boating & Fishing Club Fish Fry-all went very well.
- Nominating Committee (No one interested)
New Business
- Election: Terms expiring this year: Vice President and Treasurer. Chris M. nominated Shana S. for Vice President and she accepted. Sue C. nominated Wendy G. for Treasurer and she accepted. There were no other nominations. Everyone indicated their agreement to elect Shana S. as Vice President and Wendy G. as Treasurer with a unanimous voice vote.
- Rule changes for Golf Cart Rodeo-Jim G. clarified the Rules. Next year, all the participants will be given a copy of the Rules. There was some concern about not being able to hear the announcer. Jim G. said he will find out about possibly getting a different sound system. It will be added to the next Agenda.
- Bayfest recap meeting will be after the Coffee Hour on Monday, April 3rd. Anyone who oversees a Bayfest Activity/Event should attend. Next Activities Committee meeting is November 13, 2023.
- Charlie’s Party on April 1st-Hot Dog Sales by Bocce Club at the Paradise Bay Rec Hall at 1-4 p.m.
- Fashion Show Ladies at next Coffee Hour
Committee reports/update
Boat & Fishing Club-Chris M.-They will be hosting the Easter Dinner at 1 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. Donna M. has the sign-up sheet and tickets which are free.
Sue C. is tentatively planning to have Pot Lucks on May 18th and June 15th at 5 p.m. as long as those dates don’t conflict with the “Out to Dinner” Group.
Art Class-Marilyn M.-the Art Show was one of the best attended.
Bible Study-Dan S.-This Thursday, March 30th will be the last Bible Study.
Waterfront Sunday Service-Dan S. will not be able to do a Good Friday Service, this year. The Sunday morning Service has grown to 100+ people. He plans to have a service on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday at the Waterfront, weather permitting.
Golf League-Jim G.- It will continue through April.
Bingo-Joyce N.-April 17th is the last one for this season. The first one for next season is November 6th.
Historical Committee: Brenda O.-She would like copies of any pictures that have been taken of any Activities.

Minutes of March 13, 2023 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl K. at 10:00 a.m.

Treasurer’s Report: Wendy closed the bank account and transferred the remaining balance to the Office. Our balance is 12,012.45 but there are several outstanding transactions. The profit from Bayfest was $1,862.46. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Carl K. thanked everyone for their help during Bayfest. There were 287 meals sold. Bocce Club is donating $500. Shuffleboard is donating $100.
Vice President’s report: no report
Old Business.
- Rules: There were several changes made to the Rules dated March 22, 2021. They were presented at the last meeting. The revised Rules were emailed to the members and copies were available at the meeting. A motion to approve the revised Rules was made by Chris M. and seconded by Sue C. It passed unanimously. Karen will submit the signed Rules to the Office.
- Bayfest: Carl K. said there were 43 businesses that contributed. Thank you letters will be distributed to them.
- Nominating Committee: An email blast was sent out asking for nominations for Vice President and Treasurer. There have been no new nominations. Carl K. and Marilyn M. are on the Nominating Committee. Shana S. has agreed to continue as Vice President for another term. Wendy G. has agreed to continue as Treasurer for another term. The Elections will be at our last meeting in March.
New Business
- Rule changes for the Golf Cart Rodeo (Jim G.) This will be tabled.
Committee reports/update
Bingo-Joyce N. donated $367 from Cash Awards.
Shuffleboard-Chris M.-We had our Strawberry Social with almost 50 people attending.
Boat & Fishing Club-Chris M.-Fish Luncheon on March 24th at 12 for members only. Easter dinner will be at 1 p.m.
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan M.-We sold 442 hot dogs at the Hot Dog Sale during the Park Wide Sale. Our profit was approximately $1,500. The Fashion Show will be on March 23rd. Over the last 4 years, we have donated over $8,000 locally.
Health Fair-Susan M.-The blood drive had 28 donations, 8 more than the last time. There were a lot of people attending the Health Fair so we will probably have it next year.
Art Class-Marilyn M.-the Art Show will be on Sunday, March 19th at 1-3 p.m.at the Paradise Bay Rec Hall; refreshments will be served.
Historical Committee: Brenda O.- She thanked Peggy B. for her assistance this year.
SaraBay-Kathy O.-We are updating our 2024 Calendar with Shana S. They have decided to increase the price of their Pancake Breakfast from $3.50 to $4.50. Our Ice Cream Social will increase from $5 to $6 for next year.
Sue C. asked for clothing donations that she distributes to various organizations in the area.
Mary F. is in the process of working on a Pictorial Directory for next season.
Joyce N. will do a presentation about the Activities Calendar at the next Coffee Hour.

Minutes of February 27, 2023 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Carl K. at 10:00 a.m.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed, posted in the Rec Hall and passed out at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.
Treasurer’s Report: Wendy will be closing the bank account and transferring the remaining balance to the Office. The Activities Committee funds are managed separately from other accounts managed by the Office. If anyone needs to be reimbursed for an expense, they need to submit a receipt to Wendy. She, then, fills out a form and submits it to the Office then a check is issued and given to Wendy which she will pass on to whoever submitted the receipt. Our balance is approximately a little over $9,000. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report:
Vice President’s report: Shana S. has tickets for the Luncheon. If anyone would like to help sell them, please get them from her.
Old Business
- Bayfest: It will be on Saturday, March 4th. The Theme is Patriotic; Red, White and Blue. Cars, Golf Carts, bikes, etc. need to line up for the Parade by 8:30 a.m. at the SaraBay Rec. Hall. Jim G. has about 12 lbs. of candy to be distributed to everyone to throw out during the Parade. The Parade will start at 9 a.m. The Games and Luncheon are at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Raffle tickets will be drawn before the Golf Cart Rodeo then posted. Jim G. said there will be no parking on the Million Dollar Lot starting Friday night or Saturday morning before the Golf Cart Rodeo. The Golf Cart Rodeo will begin at 3 p.m. at the Million Dollar Lot. Beach and Ride have donated a Golf Cart for the day and a one-week free rental for the raffle. The Food Truck will be here 4:30-7:30 p.m. There will be a Dance at 5-8 p.m. There will be an Irish Dance performance during the band’s break.
- Rules: There needs to be some changes to the current Rules because the Office is managing our funds, now. The revised Rules were emailed to the Activities Committee members and copies were passed out at the meeting. After some discussion, there were no changes made to the Revised Rules. Therefore, according to our Rules, the revised Rules will be voted on at our next meeting.
New Business
- Elections: Terms expiring this year are Vice President and Treasurer-Nominating Committee will consist of Carl K. and Marilyn M.
Committee reports/update
Kitchen Supplies-Sue C. would like to request two 100 cup coffee makers. Carl K. told her she should request them from the Office since it’s equipment that’s owned by the Park.
Health Fair-Susan M. thanked everyone who participated in the Health Fair and donated blood. There were 28 units of blood donated, which was the most we ever had. Susan M. won a $50 Gas gift card at the Health Fair and donated to be used for Bayfest.
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan M.-We will be doing a Hot Dog Sale during the Park Wide Sale on Saturday, March 11th at Sally S.’s 4 J St. The money will go for local charities, this year. Fashion Show is on Thursday, March 23rd at 1 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the Coffee Hour.
Dances-Debbie G.-Bayfest Dance will be in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall from 5-8 p.m. During the break, Debbie F. and the Irish Dancers will perform. There will be a 50/50 drawing. The last dance of the Season will be on March 17th with the Eric Von Band.
SaraBay-Kathy O.-During the Coffee, this morning, they did a Show ‘n Tell about the online Activities Calendar. Last Pancake Breakfast is this coming Friday at 7:30-9 a.m. The last Blanket Angels event this season is today. The Mulligan Stew Dinner will be on March 16th at 5 p.m. Your “ticket” is to bring an ingredient in the morning. There is a sign up at the SaraBay Rec Hall for the ingredients that are needed. The SaraBay Craft Show is March 11th at 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Church Services(Sunday Evening)-Anne O. told us to remove the Sunday Evening Church Services from the Calendar for the rest of the Season.
Boating and Fishing Club-George M.-Frank & Bean Dinner was Saturday; there was a very good turn-out. He thanked everyone for coming and, also, volunteering. 400 tickets were sold with 361 redeemed. They had a 50/50 drawing but the winner has not claimed the prize of $231. The ticket no. 2255841. The next meeting is tomorrow, February 28th at 11 a.m. There will be a Chili Luncheon for members only at 12 noon.
Waterfront Sunday Service-Dan S. would like to continue until Easter. He plans to have a Good Friday Service on April 7th at 6 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall.
Art Class-Marilyn M.- The Art Show will be on March 19th at 1-3 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. There will be snacks and drinks.
Historical Committee-Brenda O.-There was a good response from the reading of the personal interview at the Coffee Hour. She can use some help.
Euchre-Mary F.-There has been 28 people attending.

Minutes of February 13, 2023 Meeting

Treasurer’s Report: Our balance is $9,797.87. The Paradise Bay Office is managing our account, now, so we will have insurance coverage. If anyone needs money for the weekend, please request it by Thursday. The report will stand as read.
Co-President’s Report: Jim G. said he requested additional information from the people who would like a Golf Simulator but hasn’t been given any details. He said there still is a potential of having one. Carl K. told us that Randy D. requested volunteers to sign up to cover the pool but Jim G. stated he didn’t think it was a problem. Carl K. mentioned that the Hot Dog Sale and Bingo is tonight. Carl K. said that security is everyone’s business and asked us to remind our neighbors. If you see something, please report it to the Office or one of the Board members. Jim G. said he would send out an email blast with the Security’s phone number.
Vice President’s report: Shana said she is working on next season’s Calendar and asked people to let her know their dates for next season.
Old Business
- Bayfest: Organizational meeting will be on February 13th after the Activities Committee meeting.
- Rules: Need to revise, then present at a future meeting for discussion.
- Italian Dinner was on February 11th: Donna M. said she had a lot of help. She really appreciated all the people who helped. She said it went very well. Sue C. thanked everyone who cleaned the kitchen.
New Business
Committee reports/update
Ladies Friendship Club-Susan M.-We will be distributing flowers and Valentines to 27 people who are 90 years old and older in ParaBay and SaraBay, tomorrow. There will be a Fashion Show on March 23rd at 1 p.m. The Welcoming Committee will visit the new shareholders with an insulated bag full of information about the activities, etc. Also, they will offer a golf cart tour of the area. During the Season, each month 2 people will visit the new shareholders. Sue C. said she would visit the new shareholders during the summer. A $250 check was presented to Activities Committee. American Pride and Cancer Awareness Bracelets will be sold for $5 at the Coffee Hours.
Health Fair-Susan M.-It will be on February 23rd at 9-12 in the Paradise Bay Rec Hall. The Blood Mobile will be there at 9-2.
Bingo-Joyce N.-We have had pretty good crowds. She presented a letter stating $327 will be transferred to the Activities Committee from January Cash Awards.
Boating and Fishing Club-George M.-Frank & Bean Dinner is February 25th at 4-6 p.m. Anyone who is selling tickets please turn in any money and continue selling tickets. The CPR/AED Class was cancelled because the Fire Dept. was short staffed. The Coast Guard training class went very well. Chris M. mentioned there are 40 people signed up to the Kayaking Club being managed by Kevin. Scotty Y. is working on the Kayak launch to get approval, no specific spot, yet. He said there’s an area that they will clean up for the kayakers. Also, he cautioned people not to invite people from outside the park to kayak. The next meeting and Chili Luncheon is February 28th at 11:00 a.m. instead of the first Tuesday of the March. There will an Auction during the meeting.
Shuffleboard-Chris M.-The State Amateur Tournament was very successful. Shuffling Under the Stars has been extremely well attended. There is room for 40 people to play and 56 people were there. If you would like to play, please come early. There will be an Inner Park Shuffleboard Tournament on March 3rd. Anyone who is interested, please sign up at the Clubhouse.
Bocce-Tom B.-They have been getting bids for the work that needs to be done on the courts. They are doing very well financially and would like to donate to the Activities Committee but need to determine how much they need to pay for the work on the courts.
Pickleball-Melissa C.-The Annual Party is February 24th.
Water Aerobics-Jean C.-It’s going very well. There will be an in-person instructor doing the class, occasionally. Her name is Peggy Price. A notice will be sent out about when she will be doing the class.
Craft Show-Jean C.-It was on February 4th. She thought it was the biggest and best one we ever had. She presented $275 to the Activities Committee.
SaraBay-Kathy O.-She’s coordinating with Shana S. confirming the Activities for the 2024 Calendar. Tickets for the March 10th Dance are on sale for $10 each. Ice Cream Social is next Tuesday, tickets at the door for $5; Ukulele Group is the entertainment.
Woodshop-Wendy G.-Tickets on sale for various items at the Coffee Hour.
Jim G. told us there will be a Street Party at 17 4th Street on March 2nd at 1-4 p.m. Smoked Brisket will be served, please bring a dish to share. Everyone is invited.
