MINUTES OF PARADISE BAY BOATING & FISHING CLUB MEETING

March 6, 2018

Club Officers:

President, Carl Shaver

Vice-President, Gary Armour

The meeting was called to order at 9:01 AM by President Carl Shaver, 80 members present, 1 guest, Justin Wallheiser. Florida Wildlife Federation. Opening prayer was observed.  Treasurer’s report and Secretary minutes were read and approved.

Fish Contest Awards were presented. The Executive Board decided ties should receive full contest award amount.  Frank Chan questioned this decision, discussion followed. 

MOTION: Pay each winner including ties the full amount for each winner.  PASSED

   THE March 13 One Day Contest and March 20 Non-Award Winners contests conflicts with a Paradise Bay Board Meeting.

 MOTION; EXTEND CONTEST CUT OFF TIME TO 7PM FOR MARCH 13 AND MARCH 20 CONTEST.  PASSED

Gary Armour   Club Hats and T-shirts available.

DOCKMASTER’S REPORT:  John Mattei reported the channel markers are still in the permit stage. There is a new approach ramp in the storage area and a new concrete pad in the lot.  The boat dock waiting list is posted down by the docks.

Don Domrose has a new Boat Assist list available with a few minor changes.

John Mattei thanked his crew for their help during the Italian Dinner.

Bill Booher reported on the March 17 Hazardous Waste Disposal for Manatee County, hand outs with further information are available.

Jim Waller discussed the Fish Fry Dinner on March 23, in Paradise Bay Hall.  He suggested next year having a ticket system for the dinner.  This would enable the number of attendees to be determined.

MOTION; INVITE THE COAST GUARD AUXILIARY AND WEST MANATEE FIREFIGHTERS TO THE FISH FRY DINNER.  PASSED.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS; MOTION:  PRESIDENT, CARL SHAVER, VICE PRESIDENT, GARY ARMOUT, TREASURER, JOYCE STEPANSKY, SECRETARY, SHEILA GILSTRAP   PASSED

Raffle was held with two winners, one receiving a hat and another a membership for next season.

NEW BUSINESS; FORM A COMMITTEE TO RESEARCH CAMERAS FOR THE DOCK AREA.  Bill Booher, Steve                and Tom Gath.

Justin Wallheiser discussed issues regarding Florida fishing Regulations.

MINUTES OF PARADISE BAY BOATING & FISHING CLUB MEETING

January 30, 2018

Club Officers:

The meeting was called to order at 11:05 AM by President Carl Shaver, 96 members present, 3 guests from the Coast Guard Auxiliary.   Opening prayer was observed.  Treasurer’s report and Secretary report were read and approved.

Fish Contest Awards were presented.

Gary Armour has Club Hats and T-shirts available.

DOCKMASTER’S REPORT:  John Mattei reported we are waiting on permits to install new channel markers.  There are 56 people on the dock list.

Don Domrose has a new Boat Assist list available with a few minor changes.

MOTION:  Donate $450 to Paradise Bay Activity Committee and $250 to Sarasota Bay Activity Committee, passed.

 

Frank & Bean Dinner:  Ken Huizinga thanked everyone for helping.  Joyce Shaver reported 700 tickets sold with net profit of $2,049.85.

West Manatee Fire & Rescue CPR/AED will be held March 1st in Paradise Bay Hall.

 

NEXT MEETING, Tuesday, March 6, 2018 9:00 AM Paradise Bay Hall.

 

 Coast Guard Auxiliary:  will do boat inspections today after the meeting.

FISH FRY DINNER will be held March 23,2018 Noon in Paradise Bay Hall, a show of hands was taken to estimate number of members planning to attend.  Sign up sheets were passed for Volunteers.

Bill Booher spoke regarding the March 17, 2018 Hazardous Waste disposal information.  Hand outs will be available at the March meeting.

Carl is looking for people interested in Basic Fishing Tackle & Instruction, either to teach or people interested in learning more.  Please let Carl know if you are interested.

Discussion regarding the fishing contests and award amounts.  Possible alternative prizes were mentioned.  Please make suggestions to an Officer or during a meeting on ideas to make our Club better.  How can we include Boaters that do not fish for example?

The meeting was called to order at 9:10AM by President, Carl Shaver, 65 Members present, one guest.  Carl welcomed new members.

The Minutes and Treasurer report were read and approved.

Fishing Contest Awards for December were presented.  The next One Day Contest will be January 17 with Rain Date January 18.  Contests end at 5:00 PM.  Discussion regarding measuring fish was held.  MOTION:   measure to 1/8 inch. PASSED

Vice President, Gary Armour announced shirts and hats are available for sale.    Gary introduced Bob Fesko, Coast Guard Auxiliary, he has been here every January for about 10 years.  Bob discussed his role with the Auxiliary and pointed out items needed for boats to pass Inspection.  They also offer a Boater Safety Course the first Saturday each month at their facility on 59th Street near GT Bray Park. Discussion regarding expired flares, Carl Shaver suggested carrying them in your vehicle for safety at accident scenes.  Bill Booher mentioned the Manatee Hazardous Waste for disposal.  Bob Fesko said you could put them in a bucket of water until they swell up and are nonfunctional, then dispose with household trash.

DOCK MASTER:  Don Vogel updated upcoming projects.  New channel markers to be installed and repairs to the 5th Street ramp.  

Don Domrose updates the Boat Assist List.   Please let him know of any corrections or additions.

Boat Club minutes, contest winners and newsletters will be posted on Paradisebay.info and on Park and Waterfront bulletin boards.

MOTION:  Club will pay for coffee and donuts for Club members volunteering at Paradise Bay Coffee hour.  Motion PASSED.

Upcoming: Hosting Paradise Bay Coffee hour January 15 at 8:30 A, M.   The FRANK & BEAN Dinner January 27, please pick up your tickets from Joyce Shaver, 38F Street.  February meeting January 30 at 11:00 Chili Luncheon!  CPR classes are changed to a two-hour refresher course, Thursday, March 1.  Fish dinner March 23, 2018. Easter Dinner hosting April 1, 2018. 

John Mattei and his kitchen crew have volunteered to host an Italian Dinner fundraiser for the Activities Club on February 24 at 6PM.  Phyllis Cook and Jerry Estebrook will be handling ticket sales and posters.    Tickets will be available at Paradise Bay Coffee hours. Please volunteer to help.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by President, Carl Shaver, 67 Members present. Carl welcomed new members.

The Minutes and Treasurer report were read and approved.

Nomination and Elections were held for Treasurer. Motion for Joyce Stepansky was nomination for Treasurer, Tom Dick as Assistant Treasurer. Motion Passed.

Fishing Contest Awards for November were presented. The next One Day Contest will be December 19 with Rain Date December 20.

DOCKMASTER: John Mattei announced there are 107 boat slips, 23 are private and 99 storage spots. The code for the Ramp chain lock is 0526.  Please have your name on your trailer, do not lock the tongue. The Dock wait list will be updated and posted Dec. 6 down at our board off 3rdSt. Don Vogel updated upcoming projects. New channel markers to be installed and bids are being taken for repairs to the 5thStreet ramp.A huge thank you to George Cook for helping with the electrical problem saving us a costly repair.

MINUTES OF PARADISE BAY BOATING & FISHING CLUB

November 7, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by President, Carl Shaver, 43 Members present.  Carl welcomed new members.

John Mattei is taking over Dockmaster position and has agreed to continue through December.  We will be accepting nominations and voting on a new Treasurer at the December meeting.  John gave the Treasurer’s report.

DOCKMASTER:  Vogel thanked Rod Kramer for his summer service.  This year’s projects are channel markers.  We are waiting for permits; 10 markers need to be replaced and lights installed.  The 5th Street ramp needs attention.  We have a permit to extend the concrete 25 feet.  The chain across that ramp was installed to keep people out. Combination is 0526. Don also thanked John Jelink, Don and Kay Domrose for their help.  A big thank you to Bonnie Vogel for assisting with book work for the Dockmasters.

Don Domrose will be updating the Boat Assist List.

Frank Chan will check out who to report the Newsletter information for Sarasota Bay.

The November fish contest will be Tuesday, Nov 21, with rain date Wed Nov 22.
