Paradise Bay Sarasota Bay Boating and Fishing Club Meeting Notes

President Ron Prieskorn started the meeting at 9am with the pledge of
Allegiance and the Fisherman’s Prayer. There were approximately 66 members in attendance.
Ron asked to approve November 7th 2023 meetings minutes that were printed on tables for the membership review, a motion to accept was made by Jim Elias and 2nd by Ricky Baer.
Chris Matteson spoke about several topics, Chris explained how the different chairs of the club really make the club function smoothly. He also asked others to consider stepping up for chair positions as well as being future board members in training. Chris talked about the frank and bean dinner and the importance of selling tickets to support the club. He thanked all volunteers that make the dinner a great success.
Ricky Baer talked next about the safety classes and the importance of this class. Ricky then reviewed the upcoming Coast Guard boat inspections and the need to check your expiration dates on safety equipment such as fire extinguishers. Both of these events will be scheduled soon.
Dan Wilder talked about the 2nd season for the club’s boating trips. These fun trips to such places as Woody’s River Roo, Gilligan’s Island, Bean Point, Egmont Key and Marina Jacks are just a few of last year’s destinations. Dan reminded everyone you don’t have to have a boat; our club members are happy to take you along. Sign up sheets for trips will be available at our next meeting.
Kevin Sullivan reviewed the club’s efforts to get a bayfront kayak launch and transport trailer. Kevin said we are in a sweet spot to get these projects moving forward.
Kevin then asked for member approval for $1000.00 of club funds toward the Kayak trailer. A motion was made to donate $1000.00 by Ricky Baer and 2nd by John Hopkins. Motion was passed.
Gary Plum spoke about the infrastructure meeting at the Helms house this Thursday the 7th at 9am. Gary Plum said it would help the kayak launch the project move forward if a large number of kayakers attended the meeting and express the need and benefits to the park for this project.
Kevin gave an apparel update on shirts and hats, He then asked for a motion to approve $500.00 for a hat order. Motion was made by John Hopkins and was 2nd by Tom Billings.
Kevin then reviewed the treasure report that was printed and distributed on all the tables. He asked if there were any questions and there were none.
Ron reviewed a few more details about the kayak launch and trailer efforts to the club members.
Scotty Yates spoke about several slip and boat storage issues. Reminding everyone to take all hoses and dock lines when they remove their boat from the slip. To keep your trailer in good condition so it can be easily moved when the need arises, like the hurricane we had this summer. No blocking wheels, tongue jacks in good condition and tires inflated. He said there may be some ongoing repairs needed for the docks because of the salt water damage from the hurricane. Also please obey the stop signs installed this summer, they are for everyone’s safety and help with traffic at the boat launch.
Ron reviewed the new fish contest rules that are posted on Team Reach and Paradise Bay Info. The new rules include winners must be present to collect prize money. Prize money will only be available for two meeting.
Ricky Baer did the auction again to the joy of all attendees. He auctioned off a couple club shirts and several other boating items including lower unit Quick Silver gear case oil.
The 50/50 Drawing Winner was Chris Smith for $53.00

President Ron Prieskorn started meeting at 9am with pledge of
Allegiance and the Fisherman’s Prayer. There were approximately 45 members in attendance.
Ron asked to approve April 4 th 2023 meetings minutes that were printed on tables for the membership to review, minutes were approved by the membership.
Ron reviewed the TeamReach App. He then explained how to signup and operate the app.
Stan Hellenbrand reviewed Google Lens on your phone that will identify anything you take a picture of.
Chris Matteson explained that a copy of the bylaws and the annual calendar of events where available on the table for pick up. He also reviewed Frank and Bean dinner information while tickets were passed out during the meeting. We need all members to help with the selling of these tickets as this is one of our largest fund raisers. Please ask a board member for tickets to sell.
Kevin Sullivan had placed the financial report for the past year on the tables. Kevin reviewed the information on the report with the membership. Ron Prieskorn asked for the report to be approved.
A motion to accept was made by Mike Dunn it was seconded by Mike Carrol.
Kevin then went over this year’s shirt information and expected cost. Kevin then asked for a motion to accept the purchase of this season’s shirts not to exceed $3500. dollars.
A motion to accept was made by Ken Huizinga then seconded by Stan Hillenbrand, motion was passed.
Kevin included information about the Kayak launch and trailer the club has been working to eventually make available.
Stan Hellenbrand then explained changes for the fishing contests. After impute from the membership several changes were suggested and voted on. The changes were approved with a vote of hands raised for and against. The vote was an overwhelming yes.
One change was that fishing contest winners must attend PB SB boat and fishing club monthly meeting to receive their prize money.
The news rules for fishing contest will be posted on Paradise Bay info, Team Reach and the record board when finished being typed up.
Ron talked about the details of the fish contest and music event at 2 nd st. and Bayview on November 16 th. The roads will be closed during this event. Boaters that plan to fish past 3:45 are asked to talk to dock master, Scotty Yates, in advance about parking in empty slips. Boats should be pulled out at the conclusion of the music event, if you need to leave boat overnight it will need to be removed the next morning.
Scotty Yates gave a review of boat yard rules and thanked Don Vogel and all the volunteers that made repairs and cleaned up after Hurricane Idalia this summer. Scotty reminded slip renters to remove lines and hoses when you pull your boat out, these items caused damage during Hurricane Idalia and made clean up more complicated. Scotty also asked not to give out the codes to launch and boat storage locks.
George Rogalski asked about the sailboat in our canal. Scotty reported that FWC is working on removal of the sailboat but explained it can be a lengthy process.
The 50/50 Drawing Winner was Pat Gardner for $35.

Paradise Bay Sarasota Bay Boating & Fishing Club Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by President Ron Prieskorn. There were 74 members present.
Ron Led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and then recited the Fishermen’s Prayer.
Ron asked for a motion to accept the minutes that were available to review placed on the tables. The minutes were accepted and approved by the attendees.
Ron stated the club will not be banking with the park office. He explained our club will continue to bank with our current bank after we make some needed changes to update our account. We will then review the banking practices next year and reevaluate annually.
Ron reported the Frank and Bean dinner was a Great Success, Ron then thanked all the volunteers that worked in the kitchen and dinning room.
Ron explained how the TeamReach app keeps club members up to date on the activities in the club. If you need help with the app, ask a board member for assistance.
Ron informed the club that snook are open again March 1st though May 1st .
Chris Matteson gave an update on our new bylaws and fish fry. A copy of the proposed bylaws was on tables for review and consideration. The bylaws will be voted on at the next club meeting April 4th 2023.
Chris thanked all the volunteers for their hard work that made the frank and bean dinner a huge success. He also thanked the volunteers that provided the chili luncheon today.
Dave Brown gave a Kayak update on the many trips that have been organized by the group. He also informed everyone that if you need a kayak several of them have an extra kayak to loan.
Scotty Yates stated all slips are currently assigned. Scotty also talked about the kayak launch area and not inviting kayak or boaters from out side the park.
Dan Wilder talked about the upcoming boat excursion to the Sarasota area on Monday March 6th. The plan to meet at docks at 11:00 am. Please bring lunch as they plan to anchor out at the sand bar.
Kevin Sullivan gave a report on the Frank and Bean dinner finances and the monthly financial report.
Stan Hillenbrand announced all the fishing contest winners and gave out the prize money. The club had all winners come up front for group picture.
Ron Prieskorn then had our annual nominations / elections for each position on the board. There were no volunteers or nominations. So, the current board will maintain their positions with the exception of Chris Matteson who will step down at the end of this season. Club will revisit nominations for the vice Presidents position at upcoming meetings.
We then had an fun and exciting auction two boat trips, one with Ron Prieskorn to go fishing and one with Jim Gath for a boat trip on the bay. Rons trip got a lot of bids and went to John Hopkins for $210.00 Then Jim Gaths boat trip went to Wayne Hasek for $100.00. after the boat trips a lot of items that Larry Blank received from local merchants were also auctioned off. Scotty Yates also brought several items to be included in the auction. Ricky Baer was our auctioneer who made a fun and exciting time of the auction.
Thank You to the members for their bids to help with club expenses.
The 50/50 winner was Lenny Robinson who won $90.00, Congratulations.
We had a winner come forward to claim the 50/50 for the Frank and Bean dinner drawing on Saturday. Kay Seorum won $231.00 Congratulations to her.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch of chili, franks, beans and friendship.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00am by President Ron Prieskorn. There where 63 members present.
Ron Led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and then recited the Fishermen’s Prayer.
Ron then asked for a motion to accept the minutes that were available to review placed on the tables. The minutes were accepted and approved by the attendees.
Chris Matteson introduced Ken Huinga who thanked all the volunteers that stepped up to help with the Frank and Bean dinner.
Chris then asked the club if anyone had the recipes for the fish fry. Please contact Chris if you have any information about the recipe.
Chris also thanked Mike Dunn and Dave Brown for heading up the kayak committee and getting the ball rolling to install a kayak launch.
Scotty Yates gave the dock master report, Scotty report 10 new slip assignments and that the boat list has 26 members on the wait list. He also thanked Don Vogel for rearranging of the boat yard to get 10 new trailer spots. Scotty explained that he is working on the plans to add a kayak launch to our water front with the help of Dave Brown and Mike Dunn.
Ron then addressed the moving of club banking to the Paradise Bay bank account. There were several members that expressed concerns. Ron then explained that we would gather more information and present it at the next meeting. We will also have a vote next meeting about the bank accounts.
Ron then explained how to get on the new phone app and that instruction sheets were on each table. The app called TeamReach will connect all the members of the club to each other for last minute up to date information. Other clubs in the park are already using the app.
Ron asked for a motion to add a one day fishing contest for Kayakers. Ricky Bear made the motion and Dave Brown seconded it. The club took a vote that passed unanimously.
Dan Wilder then spoke about a boat excursion February 24th ( rain date will be February 27th). Dan will lead the boaters to Marina Jacks in Sarasota for lunch, then a leisurely trip back from Sarasota to paradise Bay. Contact Dan Wilder, for more details, find his number in the phone book.
Ricky Baer was recognized for managing the Coast Guard boat inspections. Ricky then spoke about the inspections and reminded everyone that fire extinguishers expire after 12 years. Ricky also recognized Gail Noren for receiving a 100% on the written test given after the Coast Guard boat training class.
Ron then announced that the CPR/AED class was cancelled because of staffing issues at the Coast Guard.
After some exchange of information, Ron announced the next club meeting will be February 28th at 11am.
Kevin Sullivan Read the monthly financial report and talked about the accessibility of the information. See Report below. Kevin discussed some off the issues regarding the transfer of boat and fishing club banking to Paradise Bay account.
Stan Hillenbrand read the January fishing contest winners George Mullen read the one-day fish contest.
Ron then explained our Vice President, Chris Matteson will be retiring and the club is asking for nominations to replacement Chris. Ron also told the club he would like to accept nominations for club President, as he, also, would like to step down. Nominations can be made any time before or during our next meeting. A vote will be conducted for these positions at the next meeting.
PB/SB Club had two boat trip drawings, one for a boat trip on the Bay with Tom and Dee Billings won by Margie and George Rogalski the other a fishing trip on the bay won by Ricky and Peggy Baer. Congratulations to both winners. We will be selling tickets for two more trip at the next meeting.
We then had an auction for a few items that Larry Blank received from local merchants for our club. Ricky Baer was our auctioneer and made a fun and exciting time of the auction.
We had a nice Penn Rod and Reel that went to Rod Kramer.
Then a nice gear bag with some fishing lures inside, went to Jack Whitaker.
We also auctioned off a large 5-gallon jug that was sold to Scotty Yates. Scotty donated the jug back to the club and it was reauctioned off to Gary Crist
