Minutes of January 23, 2023 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Carl K. at 10:00 a.m.

Prayer was said by Carl K.

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Present were: Jim Gath: Co-President, Carl K.: Co-President, Shana Simison: Vice President, Wendy Graf: Treasurer, Karen Rimatzki: Secretary, Donna Matteson: Board Assistant and 22 members

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the last meeting were previously emailed, posted in the Rec Hall and passed out at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.

Treasurer’s Report: Our balance is $7,598.53. We, also, received $348 from the Pancake Breakfast which sold 99 tickets. Those funds will be deposited. The report will stand as read.

Co-President’s Report: Jim G. said the Activities Calendar on paradisebay.info is up and running. It includes all the Activities at Paradise Bay and Sarasota Bay. There is a form after the Calendar to request Activities to be added. There hasn’t been any information presented by anyone who was interested in the Golf Simulator. Carl K. thanked everyone for their dedication to their Activities in making them so successful. Carl K. asked everyone’s opinion about establishing a Neighborhood Watch, in order to save $100,000 that we pay for Security. There was a lot of discussion but no decision was made. Jim G. and Carl K. will discuss it with the Board. Jim G. thanked everyone who attended the Music by the Bay. Carl K. said Meet the Candidates is on February 6th after the Coffee Hour.   

Vice President’s report: Our next meeting will be in the Hall. Shana said she is working on next season’s Calendar and asked people to let her know their dates for next season.

Old Business

  1. Bayfest: Organizational meeting will be on February 13th after the Activities Committee meeting.
  2. Rules: Need to revise, then present at a future meeting for discussion.
  3. Italian Dinner on February 11th: Donna M. is selling tickets for $12 each.

New Business

 

Committee reports/update

Boating and Fishing Club-Chris M.-They had a Boating Class with 7 attendees. Saturday, January 28th at 8 a.m., there will be a Boat Inspection, Ricky B. has a sign up sheet. The CPR/AED Class on February 25th is full. Frank & Bean Dinner is February 25th. Kevin told us a committee has formed for people interested in kayaking. Their next meeting is Wednesday, January 25th at 9 a.m. by the 5th St. ramp. Donna M. said they are in the process of designing a new shirt and would like anyone with an artistic ability to help with that.  

Shuffleboard-Chris M.-There will be a State Amateur Tournament on January 30th, it starts at 8 a.m. and it costs $8.

Entertainment-Tom B.-They sell 30 additional tickets at the door before the show.

Bocce-Tom B.-Waiting for bids to revamp the courts. Everything is going well; along with the Hot Dog Sales.

Woodshop-Rick D.-They’ve had several well attended classes. They will be selling Raffle Tickets during the Coffee Hours and Bayfest. Wendy G. told us that any items donated to the Woodshop for Trash to Treasure need to be taken to the Woodshop building; do not leave them in the building across from the Hall. They accept gently used items but not clothing.

Ladies Friendship Club-Susan M.-They are selling bracelets for $5 as a fundraiser. Next meeting is the second Wednesday in February. Our last meeting had the most ever in attendance. She invited all the ladies to join them. There will be a meeting of the Welcoming Committee after this meeting. They will visit new residents on a monthly basis during the Season to inform them about the many Activities available to them.

Dances-Debbie G.-The dance last Friday went well. The Activities Committee fundraiser dance will be on Valentine’s Day at 6-9 p.m.; admission is by donation.

Euchre-Mary F.-There were 22 players last Monday. She said several people at the Welcome Reception were interested in playing.

Kathy O.: Sarasota Bay is hosting a Patriotic Dinner on Wednesday, January 25th serving at 4:30 p.m.

Craft Bazaar-Jean C.-It is on February 4th. There are some new vendors.

Pickleball-Melissa C.-There are 142 members. She thanked us for the donation for the lights. People are playing through the evening. They have had 3 beginner classes with 20 people in each class. Friday night they are having an Under the Lights Party celebrating having the lights. Volunteers are ready to help during Bayfest. The Annual Party is February 24th.

Bayfront Flowers-Tom C.-The people who are watering are doing an excellent job. The geraniums are looking great!

Historical Committee-Brenda O.-She had newsletters from 1982 & 1993. She read an article about the Security back then, also, some of the Activities that took place.

Travel-Rita F.-There will be a bus trip to see the Jersey Boys on April 1st at the Broadway Palms. It costs $124.

For the Music on the Bay, Jim G. said the street will be blocked off.

Mary F. is wondering about having a new Picture Directory since it’s been so long that we’ve had one. Carl K. said he would ask someone in the Office.  

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Chris M. and seconded by Shana S. at 10:54 a.m.

Our next meeting is Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
