Paradise Bay Activities Committee

Minutes of January 27, 2020 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 10:05 a.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Prayer was said by Al Sesin.

The minutes of the last meeting were posted. There were no additions or corrections so the minutes will stand as posted.

Treasurer’s report was given by Wendy Graf. The bank balance is $9,222.72. The report will stand as read.

President’s report-Peggy Neely-After thanking the current officers for their help over the years, she resigned as President.

Vice President’s report-Anne Osgood-She thanked Peggy for her many years of service as President. Since Peggy has resigned as President, Anne will now become the President for the remainder of the term. This causes a vacancy in the office of Vice President. Therefore, Anne would like to appoint Shana Simison as Vice President. Shana did accept the position. Anne asked for anyone in favor of Shana becoming the Vice President to raise their hand and it was unanimous. Therefore, Shana will be the Vice President.

New Business

Italian Dinner-will be on February 14th. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m. Anne stated that the dinner is hosted by the Activities Committee members. She explained the duties and timeline for the volunteers that are needed the day of the dinner. A signup sheet was circulated for people to fill those positions. Shana has already been selling tickets, they are $10.00. She will be selling tickets at the next Coffee Hour. Betty will sell 50/50 tickets with Larry’s assistance.

Any Activities/Club with a separate account needs to purchase their own tickets and flyers for any of their events. They, also, need to manage the registration of their event and selling of any tickets.

New Stove in kitchen-whenever anyone uses the stove, please clean the top and sides. Peggy suggested purchasing a stainless steel cleaner.

Street parties-There are many more events being scheduled to use Park buildings this year. It is difficult to have Street parties in any of the buildings. Therefore, next season all Street parties need to be in the street rather than any of the Park buildings. It was suggested to have a rain date in case of inclement weather.

Shana will be taking over the calendar and scheduling from Anne. These records are now being done electronically on a computer. Shana does not have a computer so we plan to buy one for her use.

There was a lot of discussion about notifying the heads of the Activities/Clubs that do not attend our meetings that it is their responsibility to attend or send a representative. It was suggested that a personal contact be made to each of them. Anne agreed and said she would be willing to do that.

Activity report/update

Bayfest-Peggy mentioned that Carl K. will prepare the pulled pork for the luncheon. The Pickle Ball group & Bocce Club members will help with the luncheon. It will be on March 7th. Trivia Challenge-the one that was rescheduled for January 28th has been cancelled. The next one will be on February 13th at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.

Woodshop-Mary Fox-Trash & Treasure is February 1st. Rigatoni Dinner is February 7th. The last tickets will be sold on February 3rd.

Euchre-Mary Fox-on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex. It costs $1.00.

Decorations-Lynn Kalman-she is retiring and needs a replacement. Anne suggested there be a committee of 2-3 people.

Exercise-Barbara Giachetti-Exercise will now be in the Hall unless another event is taking place then it will be in the Annex.

Mahjong-Wendy Graf-takes place on Fridays at 1-3 p.m. in the Annex.

Boating & Fishing Club-Carl Shaver-Frank & Bean dinner was very successful. Last year we sold 640 tickets and served 556 meals. This year we sold 632 tickets and served 559 meals. We had a 50/50 drawing that guaranteed a cash prize of at least $100.00 to three winners. Each prize ended up being $153.00. We are having our Chili Luncheon at our next meeting on Tuesday, January 28th.

Bible Study-Carl Shaver-They have been meeting in the Annex on Thursday at 10 a.m. There has been an increase in the amount of people who have been attending so they will now meet in the Hall and use the overhead projector and screen. Dan Smith appreciates everyone efforts in making this possible.

Luminaires-Anita Cook-Each street did their own lights for Christmas Eve. She said that there are 150 jugs that need to be put in storage. Anne said she would look for some place to store them and let her know at the next meeting.

Sunshine Club-Joyce Shaver-At our next meeting on February 14th, we will honor the Park members that are over 90. We have a list of 10-12, now. If you know of anyone over 90, please let them know.

Health Committee-Rainy Dula-the Health Fair and Bloodmobile will be on February 26th. There will be sign up sheets posted on the bulletin boards. Susan Miller will be helping and then take over for next year.

Ladies Friendship Club-Susan Miller-we will be having a luncheon, bake sale, and raffle at the Craft Bazaar on February 1st. We are accepting bake goods for the bake sale and luncheon. Ladies Friendship Club and the SaraBay Activities are cosponsoring a Fashion Show on February 27th at 1-3 p.m. in the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall. It will be sponsored by Bealls. The tickets are $3.00 with a limit of 200. They will be for sale at the coffee hours. An organizational committee was formed to plan a Welcome to Paradise Bay Committee. The proposal with the details was given to Anne. Susan stated that after getting permission, 2 people would visit the new resident(s), welcome them, give them a current newsletter, list of activities with contact info, and a directory.

Dances-Debbie Greeves-There are 3 dances scheduled this year. The first one is tomorrow night with Billy Rice Band. The next one is February 8th with Eric Von & Tim Chandler then March 14th is Dr. Dave Band. This year we sold season tickets and they are sold out.

Welcome Reception-Joyce Shaver-she will no longer be in charge. There will need to be someone to take over. There was a lot of discussion on changing the format to possibly have tables set up for each Activity/Club so new residents would just get more info from the ones they are interested in.

Billboard-Larry Neely-There are a lot of activities this week. I will be putting them up.

Bocce Club-Carl Kerr-we are promoting carry outs for the hot dogs on Mondays.

Entertainment-Carl Kerr-We have chosen the acts for next year. The price of the acts has gone up. We haven’t had to raise the price of the tickets, yet. However, we might need to raise them in the future.

Church Service-Al Sesin-My goal, from a spiritual perspective, is to make our Paradise Bay community an even better place than it already is. We are nondenominational. I am a Pastor and have many years in ministry and life. If you would like someone to talk to, I am available.

Newsletter-Joyce Nicholson-It would be helpful to send information for the newsletter as soon as you have it rather than wait until the deadline. Some articles have been too long so it was necessary to edit them; try to keep them as short as possible. The newsletter should consist of only information about activities.

Craft & Hobby Shows-Jean Colson-the Bazaar is this Saturday. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The Hall will be locked from 3 p.m. on Friday until Saturday morning.

Historical Committee-Brenda Ocenasek-they need someone from the RV Park. If you have any pictures or articles for them, please let her know.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Peggy N. and seconded by Jean C. at 11:43 a.m.

Respectively submitted by Karen Rimatzki, Secretary
