Paradise Bay Activities Committee
Minutes of January 8, 2018 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 9:30 a.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited
Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as presented.
Treasurer’s report was given by Wendy Graf with a balance in the book of $3,373.69. There were no questions of the Treasurer’s Report. The audit has been finished. A new bank account will be opened in a different bank.
BayFest-Peggy Neely-it will be a ParaSara Bay 50s & 60s theme luncheon in the hall on Sat., March 3rd. Before the luncheon, there will be a parade. After the luncheon, there will be a golf cart rodeo at the million dollar lot.
Bayfront Flowers-Jean Colson-the flowers are looking good. There is a schedule for watering them.
Billboard-Larry Neely-it is going well.
Boating & Fishing Club-Carl Shaver-the January meeting was attended by 65 members. The Coast Guard has been inspecting boats. We encourage everyone to have their boat inspected. The Frank and Bean dinner will be Jan. 27th. We plan to sell over 500 tickets. Tickets are being sold now by members and will be sold at the next coffee hour, Jan. 15th. Our February meeting will be on Tues., Jan. 30th instead of Feb. 6th. John Mattei and other volunteers will be preparing the Italian Dinner on Sat., February 24th at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Activities Committee. Tickets will be sold during the Jan. 29th and Feb. 12th coffee hours. There will be assigned seating. Posters with more information will be displayed.
Calendar-Peggy Neely-Peggy has been monitoring the calendar. Wendy will, now, be doing it until Cindy returns.
Bocce-Jim Kleiner-games will begin this Wed., Jan. 10th. The meeting for team members and subs is today at 10:30 a.m. Hot dog sales are doing well.
Cards(Bid Euchre)-Susan Miller-we haven’t started playing, yet, because there aren’t enough people. Games are on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in playing, please contact Susan Miller.
Cards(Euchre Monday Night)-Mary Fox-going very well. It costs $1.00 to play.
Clogging-Glenda Mattinen-it’s being held at 9:30-12 at Paradise Bay Rec Hall on Fridays and
Sarasota Bay Rec Hall on Tuesdays through the end of March.
Craft & Hobby Shows-Jean Colson-the Bazaar will be on Sat., Feb. 3rd at the Paradise Bay Rec Hall at 9 a.m.-1 p.m.. Therefore, the Hall will be closed from 1 p.m. Fri., Feb. 2nd until Sat., Feb., 3rd around 2 or 3 p.m. There has been a lot of vendors sign up.
Decorations-Lynda Kalman-she will sort the items.
Entertainment-Linda Ramsey-season tickets are sold out for this year. There will be tickets sold at the door for $12. We have already gone to Sebring to observe possible acts for next year. When we decide the entertainment for 2019, we will sell the season tickets for then.
Exercise Class-Barbara Tasket-classes started today.
Golf League-Jim Gath-we play on Tuesdays at 12:30 at the Pinebrook Ironwood Golf Course.
Health Committee-Rainy Dula-the Health Fair will be at 9 a.m.-12 p.m., not sure of the date.
Historical Committee-Brenda Ocenasek-not started yet. Anyone interested is welcome. Please turn in any pictures of activities which will become part of our history.
Horseshoes-Bob Palmer-New pits being put in.
I-Pad Class-Joyce Nicholson-First class will be Jan. 16th at 1 p.m. Beginners can come a half hour early for additional assistance. Classes will be on the first and third Tuesdays each month.
Kitchen Supplies-Sue Cassidy-Woodshop members would like better plates for the Rigatoni Dinner. Sue would like someone from Woodshop to contact her about that. Carl Shaver from the Boating and Fishing Club mentioned they would like to pay for the supplies they use.
Ladies Friendship Club-Heidy Kiess-Susan Miller stated the next monthly luncheon will be Wed., Jan. 10th. Anyone participating in the 12 Days of Christmas Box Program, please bring in your boxes on that day. If you are unable to deliver your box, please contact Susan Miller. She will make arrangements to pick it up. We will be packing bags for homeless veterans after the meeting.
Library & Magazines-Sue Cassidy-information is in the newletter.
Nametag order forms are available in the office. Magnetic ones may interfere with pace makers.
Pancake Breakfast-Arlene Sharpsten-the next one will be on Jan. 19th at 8 a.m.
Registration-there is no volunteer. The Boating & Fishing Club members have made arrangements to sell tickets for their dinners. Other sponsors will be able to do the same.
Share-a-Craft-Betty Trader-nothing new
Shuffleboard Club-Bernie Broda-we will be hosting the State Tournament on Jan. 29 & 30.
Street Captains-Larry Neely-400 newsletters were delivered by 12 street captains. The cost to copy them was about $28.00.
Sunshine Club-Cora Brooks-the next meeting will be Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Helm’s House. There is more information in the newsletter. It will be an open meeting for up to 40 people about Crime Prevention/Personal Protection given by Lt. Robert Andrews of the Manatee County Sheriff’s office. Carl S. will ask if he would be able to speak at one of our Coffee Hours. Rainy Dula reminded everyone to walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.
Travel-Nancy Howard-we need to cancel the trip to explore the Edison and Ford winter homes in Ft. Myers because there aren’t enough people attending. Nancy stated that the liability cost for the buses has been raised. Also, the price of food has increased. This has caused an increase of ticket prices. The Cruise meeting to receive the papers for the Jan. 29-Feb. 3 Brilliance of the Seas cruise will be on Jan. 23rd at 10 a.m.
Welcome Reception-Joyce Shaver-it will be on Fri., Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. Letters were distributed to 65 new residents. The head of each activity should attend to give a brief explanation of how that activity functions. Also, in order to update the existing list of the summaries of each activity, please give Joyce or Carl S. a short summary of your activity.
Woodshop-Bruce Wagner-we will be having our Trash & Treasure Sale on Sat., Feb. 3rd and during the Park Wide Sale on Sat., March 10th.
Luminaires-Anita Cook-submitted information about purchasing luminary bags. They will research the different type of bags and submit their cost comparison of three different vendors, hopefully by February.
Bible Study-Dan Smith-meets on Thursdays at 10 a.m. at Paradise Bay Rec Hall. He would like to be extend the meetings to 11:30 a.m. He was told there isn’t any other activity during that time so that would be fine. He, also, stated there are 18 people attending.
The new rules were passed out and will be voted on at the next meeting.
Pickle Ball-Robin Smith-she will be scheduling dates to play.
Lewis Shedden’s Memorial Service will be Sat., Jan. 13th at 1 pm. at Paradise Bay Rec Hall.
Old Business: Sign-Peggy stated that we are not able to get a LED sign for the Rec Hall because the County does not allow that type in residential areas. She would like an updated version with a track letter system that is easier to change the letters/numbers. Don H. suggested there be a light over the sign. The cost of the sign would depend on its size. It could be approximately $1,000.00.
