Turning Points Tour is complete. It was mentioned that they provide a lot of services and it’s a very nice place.

Karen Carpenter spoke to us about some of the agencies that we might consider making a donation. She has been in the area for over 30 years and been involved with the Kiwanis Club. She mentioned Turning Points, Southeast High School Girls Basketball Team, and F.E.L.T. as being wonderful organizations to support. She likes agencies that depend on volunteers and help people that really need help like the homeless. Two charities that she recommended are Mothers Helping Mothers and Stillpoint House of Prayer. She told us that the Salvation Army has a place for the homeless to spend the night.

New Business:

Formation of Nominating Committee: Karen R. has agreed to continue as Secretary for another term. Jean C. has respectfully declined to continue as Vice President. Therefore, we need someone to become the Vice President for two years. We need someone to head the Nominating Committee to find someone for that position. The election will be in March. The duties of the Vice President are to fill in for the President in her absence and assist the President with anything she requests. Lynn J. agreed to be in charge of the Nominating Committee.

Hot Dog Sale will be on Saturday, March 12th. A signup sheet was passed around for volunteers to help with set up, cooking, serving and clean up. The Sale will be at Sally S.’s at 4 J St. Susan M. said she received a grant for up to $249.00 to help pay for the supplies for the Hot Dog Sale.

Wendy G. told us in the past the Sunshine Club has distributed flowers and a card around Valentine’s Day to all the residents of Paradise Bay and Sarasota Bay that are 90 years old or older. They are no longer doing that. She asked if the Ladies Friendship Club would like to continue with this annual activity. Everyone agreed that we would. Susan M. asked for volunteers to help with this activity. Several people agreed to help. As long as the Hall is available on Friday at 1 p.m, those people will meet then to assist with this activity.

There were no other nominations for either of those positions. Everyone approved Susan M. and Joyce F. continuing in their current positions for another two-year term.

Craft Shows: Saturday, December 4, 2021 and Saturday, February 5, 2022. Please think about being a Chairperson for the luncheon during those days. It takes a lot of people and is a big money maker for us.

Health Fair & Blood Mobile: Wednesday, February 23, 2022

Revision of the Constitution: The revised Constitution was emailed to members and passed out before the meeting. Susan read the revisions. There was a change made before we voted. Under Article 2: Officers   Elections for the office of President and Secretary being one year and the office of Vice President and Treasurer will be the following year to avoid the situation of electing all new officers at one election. A motion to approve the revised Constitution with the changes was made by Donna Matteson and seconded by Sharon Rimatzki. The motion passed unanimously.

She looked at our past records and saw that we had given to Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee. She stated that they are the largest food pantry in Manatee County. Allan M. received $250 from Thrivent which will be used to purchase needed items for Veteran’s Village. Bill N. received $250 from Thrivent which was used to purchase material for Blanket Angels.

There was some discussion about people donating food items in the containers at the Rec. Halls that had been done in previous years. Susan M. asked if anyone would be willing to find out from the Activities Committee or Sue Cassidy whether or not someone is in charge of that, this year. Donna M. offered to do that.

There was a lot of discussion about this. It was stated that we don’t make any money on the Craft Show. We raise money from the luncheon, bake sale, and raffle. Rita F. said she would help to find more vendors.

           LADIES FRIENDSHIP CLUB MEETING MINUTES

         DECEMBER 8, 2021                     15 LADIES ATTENDING

Susan opened the meeting with prayer and a welcome to all “old” and new members. We had two ladies join us for the first time, Anita and Deb. Welcome ladies!

As always, we enjoyed a tasty potluck. What wonderful cooks we have in our club.

Since our secretary, Karen Rimatzki, is not in the park yet, we dispensed with the reading and approval of the minutes of the last meeting of March 10, 2021.

Treasurer’s report: Joyce Farrington reported that (before the craft bazaar) we had a balance of $1,012.61. In round numbers, we had a net of $555 from lunch, $124 from the raffle, $429 from bake sale and $69 from donuts. Current balance is $2,190.61.

OLD BUSINESS

Mark Your Calendar

We are on the park calendar for the second Wednesday of every month through April 2022 from 12:PM to 3:PM

The next craft show, lunch and bake sale will be February 5, 2022.

Our hot dog sale will be March 12, 2022 during the park wide garage sale.

The style show is tentatively set for Feb 17, 2022. Susan will check with Bealls and hopefully, we will be able to continue this fun activity.

NEW BUSINESS

At the January 12 meeting we will update our membership list. Also, if you have not paid your $5.00 dues, please bring it to the January meeting.

We are scheduled to serve at the December 20 coffee hour. Rosie, Wendy, Anita, Lynn, Susan and Heidy volunteered. Please be at the hall by 8:30 to put out place mats, napkins, etc.

The following ideas for raising money were suggested: a lottery, auction (at craft sale or Bayfest), t- shirts (Heidy will look into this), and possibly selling 50/50 tickets at the style show.

The club voted to give $500 to Meals on Wheels and they will receive a 100% match for all contributions made in December. Heidy was given $200 to purchase underwear for homeless women through Turning Points. It was suggested the we should give something to Paradise Bay. One suggestion was to replace some of the shrubs in front of the wall on the East side. Susan will check with the office and our landscape company to determine the feasibility of this idea. Another idea was to donate a bench on Bayview with a plaque saying that it is from the LFC.

SOLVE (an organization for unwed mothers who keep their babies) is another suggestion to give baby supplies. The Nicholson and Millers have, in the past, purchased diapers, formula, clothing and other supplies for this organization through Thrivent and in the name of LFC.

Members signed up to clean the kitchen, Susan will let us know the date and time.

Heidy will check with Turning Points to see if a tour of the facility can be arranged.

Meeting adjourned 2:50pm. Next meeting is January 12, 2022 at 1:00pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Heidy Kiess, Secretary pro tem

Susan shared suggestions & feedback for next year’s Fashion Show as follows:

  • It was too short
  • split the show & have an intermission, bringing all models onto stage together at the end of first session, then intermission, and bring all models together on stage after second half,  distribute some of the gift bags during the intermission
  • have a rehearsal for the models to feel more comfortable
  • it was a good idea to keep the talking down, that aspect was better this year
  • list our charities in the program
  • positive comments were received on the video

Susan M. will contact Bealls to secure a date for next year.

Lori J. thanked everyone for donating to the gift bags…there were a total of 128 and she also thanked those who helped her put them together.  She voiced that she would like to do the gift bags again next year.

New Business:

-----Susan announced she failed to select a nominating committee at the last meeting per our constitution, so she herself secured commitments from members who are willing to run for office of Secretary & Vice President to be elected at this meeting.  Jean Colson will resign her current term and run for a two yr Vice President term.  Karen Rimatzki will agree to run for the Secretary position.  There were no nominations from the floor and since only 1 person is running for each open position, no vote is needed.  Karen will be the new Secretary, Jean Colson will be the new Vice President, terms beginning Nov. 1, 2020, ending 2022.

-----Susan announced a need to change our constitution to read $5.00 for dues as it was not changed last year when the change was voted on.  No vote is needed at this time to amend the document since the vote was taken already.  Joyce will make the change and send to all members.
